At six months old, Klaus loves to play with anything that squeaks. He loves chewing on antlers and small ice cubes as a treat. When outside at his foster home, he tries to play with bouncy balls- like his big fur brother. He likes to help with yard work by attacking the leaf rake and leaf blower, as well as chasing wheels on his foster mom’s little red wagon as she goes around the yard picking up sticks. His foster family has discovered he loves the water hose and any type of sprinkler, pulling the water hose all over the yard while getting soaked or biting and drinking the sprinkler water while getting soaked. As happy-go-lucky Klaus seems, his start to life has been less than easy.
CBR often takes in dogs with medical issues when owners, or shelters, do not have the time and/or resources to treat them. We are then able to place the dog in a foster home, while we diagnose their medical issues, and rehabilitate them. Klaus came to CBR about two months ago, after finding himself at the shelter with a prolapsed rectum and bloody diarrhea. He has had surgery to correct this, and his foster family is helping him continue to heal so he can be adopted in the coming months. We have also discovered that he has some abnormality in his joints in one of his paws. We are continuing to work with the specialists to determine the best course of treatment.
Despite his challenges, he loves everything! An ideal day for Klaus is waking up to play with his fur brother, doing zoomies around the yard, crashing for a nap, and then repeating this again and again. He can get a little mouthy (talking) when he doesn’t want to do something, when he is scratching his back, and when he is playing with his fur brother. His foster family says he is fairly laid back for a puppy, and loves to hang out in the kitchen with his foster mom. He likes to give hugs and be hugged, and sometimes he even likes to be held and carried around. His foster mom feels that since he is so even tempered, any family no matter how small or how big would be ideal for him. He plays great with other dogs, and would be perfect for a couple or with a family that has children. Stay tuned to his recovery- we hope to be able to start his list of approved adopters this spring!
