Volunteer Spotlight: Priscilla Key

In September of 2020, Priscilla and her husband sought out to find a companion for their beloved resident boxer, Charlie.  Charlie was older, and missing his mate who had passed.  They weren’t sure what the right fit would be- so they decided fostering would be the best approach. They could help dogs in need, and figure out the boxer personality that would work best in their home.  It wasn’t an easy decision though!  Like many who are considering fostering, she worried she may just end up with a home overflowing with nubs.

She was also unsure of what the day-to-day of fostering would look like.  Would they get a say with the type of dog they were placed with?  Would they be able to handle it if their foster became a hospice foster?  What would they do if they were struggling with their foster?  Looking back, Priscilla is so happy she took the leap.  Several well loved fosters, and a loved foster fail (Mr. Maximus) later, Priscilla says it is a lot easier than it may appear.  On the edge of sending her current foster, Sophie, to her forever home, Priscilla noted how much support CBR provides to fosters.

In addition to all of your foster’s medical needs being covered, CBR wants to place with a foster that is best for your home.  Whether that is a younger dog to take advantage of your yard, a senior or hospice foster to soak up all your time at home, or a temporary foster when your schedules allows for a shorter-term nub.  Whether she had a question on the best way to convince a sick nub to take her pills, to helping a sweet wiggle butt through heart worm treatment- Priscilla felt supported the entire journey.  She loves the family that she became part of when she joined CBR.  Even more, she loves knowing she has helped these pups through some of their hardest times, and are sending the best parts of them on to their new forever home.

Priscilla handles all foster supplies for her area, is a huge supporter of CBR events, and is impressed by the sheer love that is poured out for boxers in need.  Whether it is Blanketing Boxers with Love sending a foster their very own, special blanket, or someone taking a leap with a nub who needs some TLC before going to their forever home.  Priscilla says to just try it!  Volunteer work is meant to be fulfilling, FUN, and it is just so important to SAVE THE NUBS!
