12/2/2024:  Ah, Venus! A delightful canine soul who takes her own sweet time to warm up to her human companions. Once she decides you are worthy of her trust and affection, she will forever seek you out for comfort and safety. Having spent time on her own, abandoned, she may initially be wary and apprehensive, but rest assured, she will come to trust and love you wholeheartedly.

Venus is not your typical playful or high-energy dog. She is a bit skittish, and unfamiliar people and places can make her uneasy. She thrives on routine and has a keen sense of her safe spaces, whether it’s a cozy bed, a quiet room, or her beloved crate. While she might initially investigate new visitors with curiosity, she will soon retreat to her comfort zone. This means she won’t be jumping on your guests or getting underfoot, but she will quietly adore you once she’s familiar with you and her surroundings.

Despite her hesitance, Venus is an exemplary patient at the vet, showing remarkable tolerance and cooperation. Her appetite, however, is a bit of a challenge. She’s not much of a kibble enthusiast, and while canned food doesn’t sit well with her, she has a penchant for human food. Her ultimate indulgence? A Happy Meal from McDonald’s, please! Nuggets or a cheeseburger (hold the pickles), and fries—yes, all the fries. She also relishes chicken, ham, turkey, kielbasa, sausage, bacon, crackers with peanut butter, and pasta.

At mealtimes, Venus may sit by your side, patiently waiting for handouts, knowing that in a pack, if she doesn’t eat, another might claim her share. As a solo dog, she might graze or prefer your company while she eats. She is a low-key companion, content with napping most of the day, occasionally showing a burst of spry excitement. Her calm demeanor makes her barely noticeable, though her past has left her with a few battle scars that only add to her beauty.

On a leash, Venus is well-behaved, though a bit cautious with new sights and sounds. She doesn’t pull or weave; she stays close to her person, once she’s decided you are indeed her person. A sweet, sweet girl, Venus remains skeptical, shy, and skittish at times, even after a year in foster care. She enjoys sleeping with her human mom, and yes, she is allowed on the furniture, often found lounging on the couch or a plush dog bed.

We cherish Venus

11/25/2024:  Introducing the one and only Venus, affectionately known as Veenie Weenie! You might not recognize this radiant girl, as she’s now brimming with smiles and energy. Rescued at a mere 37 pounds, she’s made remarkable progress and now holds steady at a healthier 56 pounds, though still a bit underweight.

Venus is undeniably a Momma’s girl, through and through. Yet, when Mom is away, she graciously claims her own cozy bed in Dad’s office, where she becomes the ultimate office companion. She’s also found solace in open or unlocked crates, seeking refuge there when confronted with loud noises, shouting, or boisterous children. Despite her occasional anxieties, Venus is a fierce spirit who stands her ground.

Gone are the days of secretive dining; Venus now relishes her meals with the company of Mom and her four canine siblings. Her palate is quite refined, with a love for treats, venison, and her premium new kibble—nom, nom, nom!

When it comes to her favorite chew toy, Mom’s slippers reign supreme. Her favorite pastime? Sleeping, complete with symphonic snoring. Venus was born to defend her home from the likes of doorbells and delivery persons, a duty she takes quite seriously.

Her other hobbies include serenading the woods with the songs of her people, bestowing wet kisses, indulging in McDonald’s french fries, and pinning her beloved humans to the couch with affectionate cuddles.  ♥
