Volunteer Spotlight: Teresa White

Teresa is a CBR Director who oversees vetting and financial matters.  She moved from NC to St. Thomas and now works at a yacht marina- seeing multi-million dollar yachts everyday!

Read Teresa’s Q&A to learn more about her time with CBR:

  • What made you decide to start a rescue?

    • Back in 2000, I wanted to find boxer play groups for my high energy female boxer Lexie. This led to transporting for pit and boxer rescues in NC and VA. (One of the first ones I transported, I didn’t know to use a crate, had diarrhea all over the back of my truck!) I saw a need for North Carolina to have a dedicated boxer rescue, so the three of us founded CBR in 2001.

  • What is your favorite part of volunteering?

    • Knowing that I help make a difference in a dog’s life is definitely the best part!

  • What’s the hardest part about volunteering?

    • When a foster or adopted dog is sick, even with all the vet care we can provide, you feel helpless.

  •  What advice would you give to people interested in volunteering/fostering?

    • Jump in and try it! It’s very rewarding.  Everyone can make a difference, whether it’s showing up at events, transporting or helping answer emails.

  • Tell us a little more about you and your family.

    • I’ve been married 6 years; my husband and I don’t have kids so we treat our dogs like family.

  •  Besides running the rescue, what do you like to do in your free time?

    • I enjoy taking out our 36’ boat, doing some fishing and snorkeling.

  •  What’s a fun fact that people might not know about you?

    • My favorite breed is boxers!
