CBR Adoption Requirements

Before submitting your adoption application, please familiarize yourself with our requirements and policies.

It’s important to note that rescue boxers may not come perfectly trained or obedient. If you’re seeking a “perfect” boxer, a rescue boxer may not meet those expectations. Our organization, formed with the sole purpose of serving boxers in need, strives to find them the most wonderful homes committed to their health, safety, comfort, and happiness—a place where they’ll be treated as true family members.

Here are some key points to consider before applying:

  • Applicants must agree to a home visit.
  • All personal pets must be spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, and on heartworm prevention.
  • Adopted boxers are required to be kept on heartworm prevention and current on vaccines throughout their lives.
  • Boxers will only be adopted to indoor homes.
  • Applicants must be residents of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, or Georgia. We sometimes make exceptions for residents in TN or WV.
  • Same-sex adoptions are not allowed.

    Exceptions:

    • If you have a mixed pack (both male and female dogs), we will trust your judgment on which gender will work best.

    • At Carolina Boxer Rescue, we only allow same-sex dog placements when both the resident dog and the adopted boxer are 5 years of age or older.

This policy is based on our years of experience with the breed and the understanding that same-sex aggression can develop as dogs mature, even in dogs that have previously lived together without issue. While not all same-sex dog pairs will experience conflict, the risk is significantly higher than in opposite-sex pairings.

By requiring both dogs to be at least 5 years old, we help reduce the likelihood of future behavioral conflicts and increase the chances of a safe, stable, and successful lifelong placement.

Our primary responsibility is the long-term well-being of the dogs in our care and the resident pets in adoptive homes. This policy has been established to support the best possible outcomes for all dogs involved.

  • A non-refundable $22 application fee is required.

We appreciate your commitment to providing loving homes for our boxers in need.
