Top 10 Christmas Gifts for Your Furry Family

‘Tis the Season!  It can be hard to be a pup during the holidays- it is impossible to write Santa a letter without thumbs.  Alexa doesn’t understand bark commands yet, making getting their shopping done on time a nightmare. Not to mention all the toys hanging from the tree (?!) that they aren’t allowed to touch.

We thought we would make it a little easier on them  this year, and offer a guide to the best of the best for your furry family members.

  1. Kong Classic:  Is your dog a power chewer?  Are you confident they could chew all of the tires off of your car, given enough time?  Have you ever rolled your eyes after reading about a toy’s “durability?” Then, the Kong Classic is for you.  It will last, even if you think it won’t. Stuff the treat of your choice inside- wet food, peanut butter, cream cheese, and enjoy 30 minutes of peace and quiet.  Freeze treats inside for maximum impact. A great toy for your pup to have in the crate, home alone, or for some good old fashioned enrichment. Available at most major retailers: https://www.kongcompany.com/kong-classic

  2. Max and Neo CBD Oil:  You can’t go wrong with Max and Neo.  From quality leashes, collars, and harnesses, to supplements like CBD oil.  Max and Neo is very well loved among CBR fosters. Max and Neo offers a human grade, full spectrum CBD oil, made from top grade organic hemp from Colorado.  It is unflavored, meaning it can be given directly to your dog, or mixed with their food. Max and Neo CBD was started after its founder saw the positive impact it had on his own very scared and anxious foster dogs.  CBD is known for both its calming effects, and also healing benefits for older dogs. For every product sold, they donate one to a rescue of your choice (hint, hint… CBR). Check them out here: https://maxandneocbd.com/

  3. Natural Dog Company:  Natural Dog Company is committed to providing natural, effective, and holistic healing solutions for dogs.  They work to educate their customers, so that they can make informed choices for their dog. They are also passionate supporters of rescues across the United States.  CBR foster mom Courtney used their skin products for her foster Margo. Margo came into the rescue with dry flaky skin, and even hairless patches. She used the Wrinkle Balm, Skin Soother, and Snout Soother, and she noticed a difference within just a few days.  Explore their products here: https://naturaldogcompany.com/

  4. Lupine Collars:  It is not every day you find a collar that has a Lifetime Guarantee.  I know what you are thinking, and yes, it does include chewing. It covers any damage occuring from a “normal pet related activity.”  Committed to high quality products, Lupine is based in the heart of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Their line is inspired by the durable components of hiking gear.  Every item is made by hand. Did I mention they are also adorable? Learn more here: https://www.lupinepet.com/store/dogs

  5. Skout’s Honor:  Skout’s Honor offers pet grooming and home cleaning products that are safe for your family, your pet, and your home.  They offer environmentally responsible and socially-conscious pet products. Foster mom Chrissy used their probiotic shampoo and conditioner on her foster Cecelia.  “Using the products made a huge difference post bath with the texture of her coat, it soothed her skin, and removed build up from lack of grooming prior to her rescue. The consultant who helped me said that the probiotic formula will help Cecelia naturally restore the good bacteria, which in turn reduces dryness, itching and odor.  The set also included the deodorizer spray which I used not only on Cecelia, but my two resident boxers as well, and it was great for freshening them up between washes- and when guests were visiting. The scent wasn’t overpowering just enough to make my dogs smell freshly washed.” Use the code CAROLINABOXER for 15% off your order- https://www.skoutshonor.com/

  6. Bully Beds: Bully Beds has donated beds to some of our senior dogs who, prior to rescue, lived a life without such creature comforts.  They offer an affordable dog bed, with a 20 year warranty guaranteeing it will not go flat. Their orthopedic beds have a removable and washable cover, an option for a waterproof insert, and are designed specifically to meet the needs of large breeds.  Bully Beds was named in honor of the founders own 150lb Cane Corso Mastiff, Bull. Bull was a beloved family member, and therapy dog, who began experiencing hip discomfort. After searching for a bed that would meet their needs, and coming up empty handed- their mission began to build a truly orthopedic bed for our large furry family members.  https://bullybeds.com/

  7. Diggin’ Your Dog Treats and Supplements: Diggin’ Your Dog is all about “Keeping it Simple and Making it Great” and in “Giving Back.” They donate a portion of all profits, products, and their time to helping homeless animals in need.  If that isn’t enough, all of their products are handcrafted, hand-packed, and 100% USA sourced. 8. K9 Ballistics: Always seem to buy the exploding beds?  K9 has an extensive line of dog beds to meet almost any need.  They even carry a “Chew Proof Armored” bed, that I think a lot of us can relate to.  They are “virtually indestructible for persistent chewers,” and if it does happen to explode in the first 120 days- it is covered under warranty.  See their line: https://k9ballistics.com/

  9. Puzzle Games: Give your dog a run for their money with a puzzle game, like the StarMark Bob-A-Lot treat dispensing toy.  Supervision is required (in large part so your dog doesn’t destroy your home on a mission to get *all* the treats), but this durable interactive toy is challenging enough to be stimulating, while still easy enough to serve as a beginner puzzle toy.  Throw your pup’s favorite treats in, and enjoy the show! 10. Lick Mats: Lick mats can help reduce anxiety, counteract boredom, and even help with destructive behavior.  They can be helpful in stressful times, like thunderstorms, by keeping your dog engaged. It also promotes slower eating.  For a wonderful, relaxing treat for your nub, fill a lick mat, like the HyperPet Licki Mat Buddy, with treats such as peanut butter, yogurt, or pumpkin puree.  Also available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GJWCJST/?tag=2185-20

It is also worth noting that a lot of cute stocking stuffers for your pup start popping up this time of year- small furry toys, and colorful rawhide.  Depending on the ingredients, and where it is manufactured, rawhide can be extremely dangerous- causing blockages and gastrointestinal issues. It can be hard to be sure what you are exposing your dog to, and it is generally best to avoid rawhide altogether.  Be cautious when choosing holiday toys and treats this season, so that everyone has a safe and happy holiday.
