Foster Spotlight – Ozzie! February 2026

Meet Ozzie: A Big Heart, a Big Personality, and a Big Need for the Right Home

Ozzie is one of those dogs who makes an impression not because he’s perfect, but because he’s real. At just 3 years old, this handsome boxer has a huge heart, a joyful spirit, and a personality that fills a room. He’s affectionate, loyal, and deeply bonded to his people. If you’re looking for a professional cuddler and an enthusiastic walking buddy, Ozzie will happily apply for the job.

Nothing makes Ozzie happier than curling up next to his favorite humans or heading out for a walk where he can proudly show off his beautiful coat (and soak up the compliments which he absolutely loves, even if he pretends otherwise). He thrives on connection and wants to be close to his people as much as possible.

That said, Ozzie is not an “easy” dog. It’s important to be upfront about that.

Ozzie struggles with over-arousal, especially when he’s excited or overstimulated. This can show up as jumping, nipping, or difficulty settling himself. He’s not aggressive, but he is intense. Very much a boxer in both body and spirit. The good news? He has already made meaningful progress and continues to improve with structure, consistency, and clear expectations. With the right guidance and commitment, Ozzie is absolutely capable of continuing that growth.

Because of this, Ozzie must have an experienced boxer owner — someone who understands the breed, can read his signals, and is willing to actively work with him rather than expecting him to “grow out of it.” He needs a confident, patient human who sees his quirks not as flaws, but as things to manage and guide.

Ozzie also needs a dog buddy. He does best with another dog who enjoys play and can help him burn off energy in healthy ways. Watching Ozzie run, wrestle, and play with his foster sister is pure joy and afterward, he settles into the most glorious, hard-earned naps. A canine companion helps him regulate himself in ways humans alone can’t.

An ideal home for Ozzie would be one where someone is retired or works from home. Ozzie struggles with confinement and does not do well in a crate — it makes him anxious, and he will attempt a full Houdini-style escape. He feels safest when he has freedom and when he can be near his people. This isn’t a dog who can be crated for long stretches of the day; he needs presence, engagement, and routine.

Ozzie is also a foodie — and proudly so. Mealtime is the highlight of his day, and in moments of excitement, he may forget his manners and attempt a little counter surfing. He’s learning, and with consistency and management, this is absolutely workable, just another reminder that Ozzie needs a home willing to guide, not punish.

So why are we sharing all of this?

Because Ozzie deserves a home where he can succeed for life, not just fit into a checklist. We know finding that home may take longer. We know it may require thinking outside the box. But we also know that in the right environment with experienced humans, a dog companion, structure, and love, Ozzie has the potential to be an incredibly rewarding, funny, loyal, and loving companion.

If you’re an experienced boxer person who understands intensity, values connection, works from home (or is retired), and has a playful dog who could use a new best friend Ozzie just might be your guy.

And if you’re willing to meet a dog where he is, help him grow, and love him for exactly who he is, Ozzie promises to return that love tenfold,  slobbery kisses, warm cuddles, goofy antics, and all.
