Dog’s Name: DeeDee

Dog’s Approximate Age: 6 years old

Gender: Female

Dog’s Size: Medium (50lbs to 70lbs. as adult and healthy weight)

Dog’s Weight: 52 lbs.

Good with small dogs?: Thus far, she has shown no initial aggression towards either our large or small dog. On a couple of occasions, she has growled at them, seemingly as a form of resource guarding my attention. While I don’t believe she necessarily needs to be in a single-dog household, I do think she would thrive with passive housemates. She would likely enjoy being the only dog, as she may not be accustomed to receiving a great deal of attention. The growling occurred when she was sitting beside me and one of our dogs approached. This has happened with both dogs, but she was promptly corrected with a firm “no.” Overall, I am not concerned about her interactions with either of our dogs.

Good with big dogs?: Thus far, she has shown no initial aggression towards either our large or small dog. Good with cats?: Has not been cat tested.

Good with kids?: Don’t know yet.

Any medical issues?:  On October 1, 2024, DeeDee underwent a dental procedure during which four masses were removed. One mass was identified as a low-grade mast cell tumor. It was completely excised with clear margins, making the likelihood of recurrence or metastasis extremely low (less than 8% for recurrence and less than 2% for metastasis). I have the full report available should there be any additional inquiries.

During the procedure, a few extractions were performed, though none were major. She has a broken lower right canine; however, due to the duration of anesthesia and the healthy appearance of the root on the X-ray, the veterinarian chose to leave the tooth for now.

DeeDee also has arthritis in both knees and should continue taking joint supplements and an NSAID.

Crate trained?: Working on it.

House trained?: Yes.

Heartworms?: No.

10/10/2024:  Greetings, friends! DeeDee here. I’ve been settling into my new home quite well. I’ve been told I’m a very good girl. I make sure to wag my entire body, especially my little nub, whenever my foster mom comes home—I really like her!

I’m quite laid back and don’t require much, just a comfy couch, good food, and some affection. I’ve been enjoying car rides and my walks. Although I wasn’t on a leash much before, I don’t pull; I mostly zigzag and stay by my foster mom’s side. She’s been using a waist leash for me, and it works wonderfully!

There are some scary things, like dishwashers, vacuums, and loud noises, that make me run into other rooms. I would prefer a quieter home over a busy one. I don’t know many commands yet, but I’m learning. I know “kennel” now because that’s where I eat my meals, though I don’t like staying in there. When I need to be confined, I stay in the living room with a baby gate, and I haven’t been destructive at all! (I’m a bit afraid of the baby gates, so I don’t push the boundary.)

I sleep every night in the living room on my big couch and never make a sound. I’ve had a few accidents, but my foster mom said it was due to a UTI. After finishing my medication, I’m doing much better and hold my bladder through the night. I’m still a bit timid about pottying on walks, though I did manage once!

I’m a middle-aged dog who doesn’t need much. If you have space on your couch for me and can take me out for the occasional short adventure, I’ll quickly become your best friend!

10/1/2024:  Hello, DeeDee here. It’s Week 2 with my new companions, and I’m beginning to feel quite at home. I adore my cozy couch, where I spend most of my time. I prefer it for bedtime over a kennel or being in a room alone. I recently had a UTI, but the medication has resolved that, and my potty breaks are now on a good schedule. I know precisely when and where to go outside!

I’m willing to eat in the crate when the lady says “kennel,” but I have the freedom to roam during the day. I’m well-behaved and haven’t touched anything I’m not supposed to. I haven’t even shown interest in toys yet. I enjoy my walks and meeting new people on the greenway; it’s really boosting my confidence. The lady often tells me how sweet I am and assures me that my forever home will be thrilled to have me.

Today, I’m going for something called a “dental,” and they’re also going to remove some bumps. I’m not entirely sure what that means, but I was told I get to go for a ride with the lady, and I truly love rides!

9/17/2024:  Hello there, I’m DeeDee! I’ve been living with these lovely people for about a week now. Initially, I was quite concerned and nervous and settling in was a bit of a challenge. However, I’ve now found my spot on the couch, and I truly love it here! I’ve learned where to go potty, and I enjoy my meals in this peculiar wire box. Aside from that, I have the freedom to roam around this house with two rather smelly boy dogs.  I have a particular fondness for the lady here, and I do wish she would devote all her attention to me rather than those other dogs. I’m willing to share, but my heart is mostly set on receiving attention from people, even though I’m accustomed to living with many dogs.  I’m not fond of hard bones, but I adore chewy treats. As long as my kibble is topped with a bit of wet food, I’m more than happy to eat it all! I do experience some pain in my knees, which causes me to sit with my bottom hovering above the ground. Fortunately, these kind people have started me on joint supplements and NSAIDs, and I hope to feel better soon.  On my daily walks, I’ve been meeting strangers, and thus far, I’ve shown no signs of aggression towards them.
