January Newsletter 2026

Welcome to the Refreshed Carolina Boxer Rescue Newsletter

Jonah, Senior Paw-spondent, CBR

Before we get too far in, I should probably introduce myself.

I’m Jonah. The unofficial note-taker, observer, and occasional obstacle in the hallway. My job is to pay attention to the numbers, the plans, and the stories that happen in between. I try to start things neatly, but a am a boxer after all.

This year marks a pretty big deal for Carolina Boxer Rescue. 25 years of saving boxers and standing beside the people who love them. That’s 25 years of second chances, stubborn resilience, joyful chaos, and more than a few moments that started with, “Well. That wasn’t on the schedule.”

I started this update the way I start most things, with a list. Milestones. Plans. A clean outline of what this newsletter was supposed to be.

Then I looked up and remembered what it actually is.

It’s the work behind the adoption photos. The late night messages. The spreadsheets, the transport routes, the vet visits, the deep breaths before hard decisions. It’s the people who show up when things get complicated, and the dogs who make sure it never stays quiet for long.

So we refreshed the newsletter.

Each month, you’ll get a short, easy-to-read update built around a few core stories that show you what life at CBR really looks like. Some of it is serious. Some of it is heartwarming. Some of it exists because boxers are very confident and not always correct.

Here’s what you’ll see when you walk in with me:

Welcome & What to Expect – A quick hello to kick off the month and set the tone.

25 Years of CBR – A look back at the moments, big and small, that shaped Carolina Boxer Rescue into what it is today.

Meet Your Rescue – A behind-the-scenes spotlight on the teams who keep things moving, from emails and transport routes to spreadsheets and late-night calls.

Directors Report & Financial Snapshot – A clear look at what the Board is working on, where donations go, and how those dollars turn into real impact and very real vet bills.

Vetting Report – A monthly update on the dogs we saw, the care they received, and the decisions that help guide every next step.

Upcoming Events – What’s ahead across the states we serve. These will be fundraisers, outreach, and chances to show up in person.

Featured Spotlight –  A chance to meet either one of our available boxers or one of the volunteers who make rescue possible, often while covered in fur and carrying snacks.

You’ll find short highlights from each section, with links to deeper stories if you want to stay awhile. We plan to send this mid-month—predictable, manageable, and respectful of your inbox.

Most importantly, this space is about connection and transparency. Rescue work is meaningful, emotional, complicated, and occasionally powered by caffeine, teamwork, and a deep sigh followed by, “Okay. Let’s do this.”

And because this has always been a community effort, I’d love to hear from you directly. If you have a story, memory, photo, or idea for a future issue, send it my way at newsletter@carolinaboxerrescue.org.

Thank you for being part of Carolina Boxer Rescue not only for the last 25 years, but also for the many butt-wagging, slobbery years still ahead.
