Meet the OG Humans: Andrea & Cricket, Through Jonah’s Eyes

Woof woof! Jonah here, your four-legged newsletter mascot, tail-chasing expert, and occasional zoomie hurricane. Today, I’ve sniffed out the humans behind CBR—the originals, the directors who kept the chaos under control and the boxers happy: Andrea Williams and Cricket Huff.

These two are the humans who said “yes” when boxers needed help, and somehow turned a handful of pups into a 25-year legacy of slobber, nubs, zoomies, and happy tails. I sat in on their chat (with snacks nearby, obviously), and here’s what I learned:

Why They Said Yes… and Never Stopped

Andrea got her start with CBR in 2015, juggling volunteering, marketing, fostering, and fundraising like a boss. Eventually, she was asked to join the board as a director. She wagged her tail and said, “Sure! Why not?” And the rest, as they say, is rescue history.

Cricket? She joined back in 2001 after losing her son. Her therapy? Helping boxers find families, one tail wag at a time. She started fostering with nothing but a printed application (yep, paper, humans… imagine that!) and eventually became a director too. Rescue became her family, her joy, and her way to help others heal.

Behind the Scenes Chaos (That Humans Don’t Always See)

Turns out, running a rescue isn’t all belly rubs and cuddles. Andrea says the hardest part is turning dogs away—every “no” feels like a heartbreak. Cricket agrees: choosing which boxers to bring in and which to pass on is a huge, emotional responsibility. It’s tough, but these humans always make sure the dogs they do bring in get the best chance at a forever home.

Favorite Wins (and a Few Happy Tears)

Andrea remembers Jubby, a wild 9-month-old boxer who jumped straight into his adoptive family’s truck and never looked back. “He was a handful,” she said, “but it was perfect. He knew he was going home.”

Cricket… well, grab your tissues. One day, a scared mom and daughter left their boxer tied to her fence with a note. They were fleeing an abusive relationship. Cricket found their dog the perfect home, and months later, she got a call: the mom was safe and wanted to thank her. Humans sometimes cry, but I just drooled in solidarity.

Funny & Surprising Human Stuff

Andrea? She didn’t even want a dog as an adult… and now, her house is basically a canine hotel. Cricket? She used to work at Hooters (yes, really tiny shorts, cut-off tops, the works). She laughed telling me she couldn’t get into those shorts now… I think she still has the zoomies, though.

Why They Stick Around

Both Andrea and Cricket call CBR their family. The dogs, the volunteers, the fellow directors… it’s all a pack that keeps them coming back, even when the chaos is at max zoomie mode. And honestly? That’s what makes CBR special: humans who love boxers as much as boxers love chaos, treats, and belly rubs.

So there you have it, friends. Andrea and Cricket: two humans, one mission, a thousand tails, and infinite zoomies. I approve. Paw-signed, drool-confirmed, and chaos-certified.
