We got involved when we were planning on trying to adopt. Our first family dog Bentley was a boxer. He was my husband‘s first dog and both my boys’ first dog. After Bentley passed away, my husband wanted another boxer. I gave in to the idea and told him that we should try to adopt from a rescue. During our home visit we were convinced that fostering sounded like a great idea. I never thought that our first foster would end up not only being deaf…but pregnant. Surprise! So, technically including two litters of puppies we have fostered 24 boxers and foster failed twice. Although sometimes it’s very hard and exhausting, we are so grateful for the opportunity. I love sharing the experience with my family. We all work together for the chance to help change a boxer’s life and then to see how excited adopters are when they get their new fur babies. The hardest part about rescue is that some of the past lives these dogs have had is heartbreaking. My advice to people interested in volunteering? Just have patience and love to give!
